Historically, the Early Career and Student Statisticians (ECSS) Workshop is a biennial event hosted by the WA Branch of the Statistical Society of Australia (SSA), usually in alternate years with the National ECSS Conference.

In 2022, we are pleased to stage a National “Miniconference” that is jointly hosted by the WA Branch, the SSA ECSS Network and the Student and Early Career Statisticians Network (SECS) of the New Zealand Statistical Association (NZSA).

An “Early Career or Student Statistician” is anyone who is currently studying statistics or data science, or has graduated in the last five years and works with statistics. There are no age restrictions.

Aims

The aims of this event are:

  • Provide an opportunity to socialise and share ideas amongst peers.
  • Build and expand professional networks for mutual support and collaboration.
  • Discuss new techniques and technologies applicable to statistics and data science.
  • Promote the role of statistics in academia, government, and industry.

Format

ECSSMini2022 is a “hybrid” event that includes two half-days of online-only presentations followed by one half-day of in-person presentations. The in-person content will also be streamed online.

The first half-day includes a workshop as part of the conference registration.

Submissions

The Organising Committee encourages all Early Career statisticians or students to submit an abstract for inclusion in the conference programme.

We are looking for a diversity of abstracts, i.e., we are not only interested in scientific or academic findings, but invite descriptions of proposals or works-in-progress, career experiences, challenging problems, reviews of emerging statistical technologies and techniques, or even biographies of statistical heroes.

If in doubt, send it out!
